Who We Are
Founded in 1973, Calhoun County Humane Society has been serving animals in need across local communities for more than 50 years. The organization was created with a simple but powerful purpose: to provide a safe place for animals in need while promoting their health, well-being, and the opportunity to find loving, responsible homes.
Today, that commitment continues through compassionate sheltering, essential veterinary care, thoughtful adoption services, and community support. As a nonprofit organization, Calhoun County Humane Society remains dedicated to protecting animals, encouraging responsible pet ownership, and helping every pet in our care take the next step toward a brighter future.
Our Mission
Calhoun County Humane Society is a trusted resource for animals that provides shelter, essential medical care, and thoughtful adoption services to help pets move from uncertainty to belonging.
From the moment an animal arrives, our focus is simple: keep them safe, help them heal, and prepare them for the next chapter of their life with a family to call their own.
Every animal that comes through our doors has a unique story. Some arrive as strays, others are surrendered by owners who can no longer care for them, and many simply need a safe place while they wait for the right family. Regardless of how they arrive, every pet is treated with compassion, respect, and individualized care throughout their stay with us.
As a nonprofit organization, we work to create positive outcomes for both animals and adopters by providing a welcoming environment, responsible adoption practices, and the support needed to help pets transition successfully into their new homes.
What We Do
Every day, our team is focused on meeting the physical and emotional needs of animals in our care while helping connect them with loving families. Our work includes:
Providing a safe shelter for dogs and cats in need
Ensuring animals receive essential veterinary care before adoption
Helping prospective adopters find the right pet for their home and lifestyle
Creating opportunities for our community to support animals through adoption and donations
While every animal’s journey is different, our goal remains the same: helping each pet move from uncertainty to a safe, loving home.
